Virginia Film Office Honors Virginia Lawyer Kirk T. Schroder

Virginia entertainment attorney kirk T. Schroder was recently elected as the chair of the Entertainment and Sports Law section of the American Bar Association.  Kirk has been a longtime member, friend and advocate of Virginia’s production industry. He is the founding partner of Schroder, Fidlow, Titley and Davis, a Richmond law firm that specializes in entertainment and intellectual property law.  He recently gave two workshops on entertainment law for the Virginia Production Alliance.

RICHMOND, Va  (June 24, 2010) – The Virginia Film Office will honor prominent Virginia entertainment attorney Kirk T. Schroder at a reception in New York City attended by lawyers and executives from law firms, studios and production companies.  Schroder has been elected to a two-year term as chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Entertainment and Sports Law Section,  a group whose mission is to foster excellence in the practice of entertainment and sports law through education and examination of relevant legal topics.  This wide-ranging field includes interactive media and new technologies; literary publishing; litigation; merchandising and licensing; motion pictures, network and cable television; radio; music and personal appearances; sports; theater and performing arts; and visual arts.  The ABA’s Entertainment and Sports Law Section has approximately 3,000 members worldwide, including many considered to be the top entertainment and sports lawyers.  Elected in October of 2009, Schroder serves a two-year term.
 
Kirk Schroder is the founding partner of Schroder, Fidlow, Titley and Davis, a Richmond law firm that specializes in entertainment and intellectual property law.  Mr. Schroder serves clients throughout the U.S. and the world from a wide variety of entertainment-related fields including actors, entertainers, authors, producers, filmmakers, production companies and financiers.  With more than twenty years experience in entertainment law, he represents many Hollywood production companies, distributors and studios.  He also represents a significant number of award-winning independent filmmakers and producers and has served as counsel on numerous major studio productions for Universal Pictures for more than a decade.  In addition, he works with high-profile clients in radio and television production and with numerous international clients, particularly from Europe and the Middle East.
 
Mr. Schroder has a keen interest in education issues and served as president of the Virginia State Board of Education from 1998 – 2002.  He has taught entertainment law at the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond and is currently the director of the Virginia Sports & Entertainment Law Institute in Virginia.   He serves or has served on numerous committees and boards of directors in leadership capacities for many Virginia organizations including the Virginia Tourism Corporation, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Commission, the Paramount Theatre, the Charlottesville Ballet, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, Virginia Chamber of Commerce and Virginia Tourism Authority.  He currently serves as President of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Public Education Fund and was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the International Hospital for Children.  He lives in Afton, Virginia.
